Glass alabastron from the hellenistic cemetery of Pylos at Gialova lagoon. The body is decorated with vertical branches with white and yellow leaves. A rough white line in the middle of the neck. Knob handles. This is a small container for scented oil (unguentarium). It was manufactured with the core-formed technique and a combination of different colour glass. The core-formed technique demanded great skill and involved pouring liquefied glass over a core of clay or other material, shaped in the desired form. This technique was older than glassblowing and would allow a rather limited production of glass artefacts, which were considered as luxury items.
