tholos tomb 3, Peristeria
Height: 8.5 cm
Single-handled gold cup. Made of a thin plate of gold that contains a small amount of silver. Relief decoration of running spirals in two zones, possibly an imitation of sea waves. A ring in high relief around the middle of the body, bordered by rings with oblique small lines. Concentric circles at the bottom. This cup, along with other gold offerings was found in tholos tomb 3 at Peristeria. They date to the early mycenaean period and echo minoan prototypes. They reflect the existence of trade relations between Peristeria and other mycenaean centres as well as with Crete; they also emphasize the high status and wealth of a powerful local ruler of the southwestern Peloponnese.
