Jar with a piriform body and three horizontal handles on the shoulder. Pale yellow clay, with brown-coloured decoration. The belly is decorated with three large octopuses in a seascape, a theme inspired by the marine style of Minoan Crete. It was found in the mycenaean tholos tomb 2 at Routsi, Myrsinochori. Two early mycenaean tombs were excavated here, with numerous luxurious offerings made of gold, bronze, ivory and semi-precious stones, including weapons, jewellery, necklaces, and elaborately decorated ceramic vessels. They were offerings to burials of local officials of high status and power. Many of the grave offerings are exhibited in the National Archaeological Museum in Athens.
