Three-handled amphora, mended by many pieces. Piriform shape. Vertical strap handles on the shoulder. Brownish-black to red decoration, due to uneven firing, partly faded. On the shoulders and between the handles three metopes, each with a schematic nautilus or argonaut motif, with three spiral-shaped tendrils. Found in Room 32 of the palace of Nestor, which was used for storing plain as well as scented olive oil in vessels of various shapes and sizes, with elegant decoration. The marine decorative motif echoes the minoan influences in the decorated pottery of mainland Greece.
