Pera Kalamitsi, Kalamata
Length: 6.2 cm x Width: 4 cm x Height: 1 cm
Bronze horse on an integrated orthogonal base, decorated with two rows of pierced facing triangles. Missing most of the tail that reached down to the base. Found along with four bronze pins in a geometric burial pithos at the locality called Pera Kalamitsi, northwest of Kalamata. This was probably the site of the sanctuary of Apollo Karneios, mentioned by Pausanias. Similar geometric figurines were common votive offerings in sanctuaries, such as Olympia.
