Sanctuary of Poseiodon, Akovitika, Κalamata
Length: 7 cm Height: 3 cm
Bronze figurine of a bull, missing the limbs and the tail. Rivets stem from the animal’s sides; the left one is best preserved and ends in a discoid head. The skin folds on the bull’s neck are formed with incisions, as is the hair between the horns. Τhe figurine was handed by a resident of Akovitika, Kalamata. A sanctuary of Poseidon was partly excavated here, next to the river Aris. Its period of use was between 1000 BCE and the 4th cent. BCE.
