Toiletries box (?) with lid
299 BCE – 000 CE
Tsopani Rachi, near Tragana
Height: 5.1 cm
Small bronze artefact with a lid, possibly used as a pyxis for keeping toiletries. It has a conical base with an outwardly curving rim. A small bronze tube is attached to a hole at the center of the lid, opened in a circular recess at the handle. Concentric incised rings around the hole in the recess. A lead cylinder was attached to the inside of the lid, probably facilitating the production of lead white in powder form. The substance was used by women as a face-whitening agent. From acist grave at Tsopani Rachi, near Tragana.
