Ionic capital made of plastered sandstone. It comes from the inner colonnade of Oikos K at Artemis Orthia in the Asclepieion of ancient Messene. On its front side, between the volutes, three eggs with spear-shaped leaves (Ionic cymation) flanked by a floral pattern of anthemia halves. The sides are decorated with acanthus calyxes and cane leaves. The calyxes are joined in the middle with a Hercules knot. A Lesbian cymation on the abacus (both front and sides). A unique morphological feature is the knot between the volutes.
