Marble statue of a girl from the orchestra in the theatre of ancient Messene. She wears a foot-long chiton, deeply folded, that reaches the plinth. The figure is covered with a himation, which envelops the body tightly, turns over the left shoulder and falls vertically down the back. The other end of the himation is folded around the left hand and falls along the left thigh. The right arm is slightly bent at the shoulder, stuck to the body, and holds the himation at hip height with clenched fist. She wears sandals on her feet. The left shoulder and part of the arm are cut obliquely and roughly worked, in order to receive a separately formed marble part. A rare statue type of the 3rd cent. BCE.
