TerracottaHeight: 4 cm
Medicine vessel with a biconical body. Signs of brown slip. On the shoulder an inscription reads "AΛΥΠΟΥ". Found in a cist grave at 'tsopani Rachi", near Tragana, it was used to store a small amount of medicine. The kind of medicine is unknown, but usually it was a herbal based liquid or ointment. The inscription ΑΛΥΠΟΥ could denote the medicine with the same name, alypon, with laxative, anti-fever and soothing qualities, but it is most likely that it is but the name of a person, i.e. a pharmacist called Alypos. It had no lid, since it could easily be sealed with a piece of leather or cloth or with a greasy substance.
