Routsi, Myrsinochori, tholos tomb 2, Messenia
Height: 1.8 cm
Cylinder seal made of agate, depicting male figures among griffins. The men wear helmets and belts and move to the right, with their right hand bent at the elbow and the left one slightly raised. Behind them a royal griffin is sits on its hind legs, with its long wings raised and its head reaching the height of the human figure. The stylized figures are reminiscent of Near eastern and Cretan motifs, which have perhaps inspired a local seal stone workshop. Found in tholos tomb 2 at Routsi, Myrsinochori, among other rich offerings.
